You Gave Up Too Soon (super quick read)
/This last year I’ve been nurturing a profitable hobby called #getWAISTED, it’s a custom waist bead line geared towards women and young girls who want to be reminded of their power and magic, inspired by mother Africa.
I launched a while ago taking select orders but have decided to do pop-up events to meet more people (also known as potential customers).
Recently, I attended my first event. The event was six hours. I saw people mosey in late and leave early.
It’s important that I note, the event organizers were very detailed with sharing the times and expectations.
I’ll also note, life happens, people can be late, there’s no jail sentence for it.
Back to my point.
My mom was my booth mate. Earlier in the day she asked if I was going to stay until the end. My response, “yes!”
I went on to share that when other people leave, there will be more money for me.
I was right.
In my last 10 minutes I tripled my goal earnings.
This important moment reminded me of a core lesson of success - you can’t just show up, you have to stay with it. Consistency is the name of the game.
There are many other powerful and deep lessons but I’ll leave you with these quick nuggets.
Show up (on time) and stay until the end, you never know what will happen.
They won’t just come because you build it, but if you never build it, they can’t come.
It’s easy to go with a standard of mediocrity (i.e. showing up late because it’s “the way it always is”) but there’s no success in mediocre behavior.
set a goal; you can’t surpass a goal you haven’t set.
There is great power in doing the right thing, even if you can’t see the payoff immediately. Regardless of if I made money at the end or not, what I was earning was a strong reputation -when I say I am going to do something I am going to do it well.
